Description

The Neotropic Cormorant is a seabird, ranging from 64 to 75 cm long with a 100 cm wingspan, and it weighs from 1.1 to 1.5 kg. It is small and slender with long tail, and is characterized by its S-shape neck.

In adult age, its feathers are mainly black, with a yellow-brown patch on the throat. During mating season, white tufts appear on the sides of the head, white filoplumes appear on the side of the head and the neck, and the patch on the neck develops a white edge.

The Neotropic Cormorant mates in trees, which dry up because of the acidity of its feces.This led it to be regarded as a human plague, being declared a harmful bird species.

This bird’s diet consists mainly of small fish, along with tadpoles and aquatic insects.
