Chucao
Common Name: Chucao
Scientific Name: Scelorchilus rubecula
Family: Rhinocryptidae
Description
The Chucao is a typical bird from the forest and wood of the southern part of Chile, between Valdivia and Chiloe. It has a slate grey head, reddish-grey mantle and back and his chest displays thin white transverse stripes. Wings are black with a
fluorescent tone. It measures up to 18 cm in length.
It is easily recognizable by the reddish color of its breast, although its shy and stealthy behaviour has it stay in the dense vegetation of the woods. It lives close to the streams and estuaries, where it comes to feed and drink water.
